Me as a designer

I love to work and challenge my self to solve problems in an out of the box creative way.  I think this represents me as a designer because of the facts that I am a mathematical thinker that can be creative in certain ways like wanting to have specific ideas of what i am doing before we start to brainstorm and design.

This year I hope to improve...

the cup 2.0

Old

For years we have suffered with the poor design of a Styrofoam cup.  Its fragile Its not Eco friendly.  But now we have solved the problem.  For Starts we changed the material completely. Our new design has many perks.

New

we started with the new material with paper. but unlike a standard paper cup where you may burn your fingers we have integrated the insulation by taking the cardboard like paper insulator found in coffee shops and making a shell to insulate the whole cup which not only insulates you hand but keeps your drink warmer longer.

bridge project

When we began our brainstorming on our bridge project we began throwing out many ideas of connecting our sections. We through out a few possible ways of connecting our sections and decided on a three pronged “weaving” technique. it allowed us to connect many strips of the paper together in longer thinner segments while still being strong enough to support the weight of the “people”.  

Then after we began our testing and that is how we eliminated our other design options and decided on our final one.

The biggest problem we ran into was the time constraint, which caused us to rush while assembling the bridge and placing the base blocks to close and in the end the bridge came in contact with the table which broke one of the constraints.  i truly believe time was our biggest enemy like in many parts of construction in life.   But if we changed any thing it would have been the block height which could have kept it from touching the table.
